What is a remote or telework-eligible job and how do I find one?

A remote job means you don’t need to go to an official office. Instead, you will work from your home or another approved site set by your agency.

Some federal jobs may let you work occasionally or regularly from home even if you go to a federal or agency office. The federal government calls this telework, though you may know it as a hybrid job or schedule.

How often you must report to an office depends on the agency and the job duties. Read the job announcement to understand if and when an agency may allow you to telework.

How to filter results by remote or telework-eligible jobs

To search for remote or telework-eligible jobs:

  1. In your search filters, select the Work site filter at the top.
  2. Select either Remote jobs or Offers telework to show jobs with those options.
  3. You can also type Remote in the Location search box at the top of any page to search for remote jobs. You may have to select the Search icon at the top of the page to show the Location box.

How am I paid if I'm a remote worker?

All federal workers' salaries have a base rate and a locality pay rate based on the area where the job is. The government bases the locality pay for a remote job on your home or alternative work site.

For telework-eligible jobs, your locality pay is based on the location of the office you work at.
