How to filter jobs by type

The Job type search filter helps you refine your results based on what you are looking for in jobs. You can filter by appointment type (how the federal government classifies jobs), if you want to be a supervisor and more. You can see the Appointment type or Supervisor status of a job in the Overview section in the job announcement.

If a job lists Multiple in the Appointment type field, it usually means the job announcement is hiring for more than one job.

On your search results page, you can select several options in the Job type filter:

  • Details—A temporary assignment to another job for a current federal employee.
  • Intermittent—A job without a regular schedule.
  • Internships—Jobs open to current students or recent graduates.
  • Multiple—The job announcement may hire for more than one job with multiple, different appointment types.
  • Permanent job—A job that does not have a time limit.
  • Recent graduates—Jobs open to those who have graduated within the last two years.
  • Seasonal—An annually reoccurring job that may last for months.
  • Summer—A job open during the summer.
  • Temporary—A job that will last no longer than (NLT) a year.
  • Term—A job that lasts one to four years.
  • Supervisor—You will supervise other federal employees in this role.
